This letterbox is hidden in an Emmet County Park on the Straits of Mackinac. The Headlands was established in the late 1950's when Roger McCormick dropped 50 pound sacks of flour from a helicopter to mark the boundaries of the property he planned to purchase. The land was later donated to the county. The park is 550 acres of pristine woodlands, with more than two miles of undeveloped Lake Michigan shoreline. It is home to many species of rare and endangered plants. Many native wild animals include bald eagles, osprey, woodpeckers, otters, deer, turkey, coyotes and occasionally a black bear as well as a variety of butterflies and birds. This park has well maintained, marked trails.

Directions:
I-75 Northbound: Take exit 338 and go North on Nicolet Ave. (M108) to Central Ave. Turn left and follow Central Ave. West to Wilderness Park Rd. (C81) and turn left. Go 1/2 mile south to the main entrance on the right (West) side of the road.

I-75 Southbound: Take exit 339 to Louvingny St. Turn left and go 1 block to Central Ave. Turn right and follow Central Ave. West to Wilderness Park Rd. (C-81) and turn left. Go 1/2 mile south to the main entrance on the right (West) side of the road.

The park entrance is across the street from the Mackinaw Historic Farm. Park at the little pavilion.

Head north 350 degrees on Trillium Trail.
When the time comes to make a choice, Go West, young travelor, 300 degrees, past the rock that weighs the most, over the hill, past the post.
A mossy carpet is your way.
If you are tired, take a rest upon the bench. When you are ready to find what you seek, head 290 degrees NW.
On the NW side of the trail where 4 once stood, 2 have fallen but 2 still stood. On the trail you still must stay but travel 20 paces 10 degrees North.
Now off the trail you must go. A trunk divided is what you seek. To find this place, walk 13 paces 100 degrees SE and take a peek.

If you reach the place where a flag can fly-you've gone too far, don't ask me why.
Don't despare, the tree is in view. You've overstepped by just a few.

To return, turn around and go back the way you came or for a beautiful hike, continue north on the trail. At the flagpole, head 300 degrees. When you have a choice, green means go.
Another choice you must make...Head west.
"Gab loves me" points the way you must go.
Soon the bench you will see...head back the way you came.

I hope you have enjoyed discovering wolfiewolf's letterbox and God's gift of nature. Another letterbox can be found at Round Lake Nature Preserve in Petosky.
