Difficulty: Getting to the Stone House involves about a half mile hike along a well maintained trail. The trail moves up a steady grade, we sometimes have to carry our youngest when she gets tired.

Getting To the Box: The box is located at Red Butte Gardens, just south of the University of Utah. To get there take Foothill Drive, turn on Wakara Way. Follow this road until you reach the Visitor’s Center. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children. U of U Students get in for free.

Clues: At the visitors center, find a map or ask a docent for directions to the quarry road and the stone house.

Once you reach the stone house, you will see two rooms. The east room had a large double door and two windows facing north. The second smaller room has a single door and a window facing north.

Stand in the doorway of the second room. Take 10 steps forward, due north (around step seven you may have to step around a small bush). To your right you will see the remains of a crumbled foundation. A row of large flat rocks will lay in front of you. The letter box is hidden under a red flat rock to your right. The one closest to the old foundation. A thin stone lays across its top.

On the far side of this rock, closest to the foundation, is a small cavity filled with a few smaller rocks. The letter box is hidden there. Please replace the box and the stones.

This is our first box, Pixie Chick carved the stamp, we hope you enjoy the rest of the Gardens.
