This box is in the Smith River National Recreation Area (USFS) in an area with many very large Madrone Trees (they have red bark). From Crescent City, drive east on U. S. Highway 199 to Gasquet. From the Smith River National Recreation Area Headquarters/Visitor Information building on the left (north) side of the highway in Gasquet, continue about 2.3 miles to the Panther Flat Campground on the left (north) side of the highway. Drive down to the Day Use Area and park in the lot at the end of the road.

From the south end of the parking lot, walk southeast a short distance to a small brown utility building. From the southwest corner of this building, go at about due south on a fairly well defined trail for about 90 steps to a dark odd shaped moderate size moss covered pointed boulder on the right side of the trail. You will cross a very small stream just before you arrive at the boulder. There are two old stumps on the right side of the boulder (the larger stump has a tiny tree growing out of the top of it). From the boulder, go at about 35 degrees (from mag. north) for about 16 steps to a very tall gnarly-barked Pine Tree with a large elongated hole in it. From that tree, go at about 106 degrees for about 15 steps to a tall 3-trunked Madrone Tree on the slope. Just below this tree and a little to the left is a very large flat moss covered boulder. The box is under the right side of the boulder about half way down from the upper (up slope) end of the boulder. The box is a little under the boulder behind a couple of moss covered rocks and plant debris.
Please be sure the contents are double bagged when you put them back in the box. Please rehide the box very well under rocks and plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
