From Keene, take Rt 10 until you reach the outskirts of Marlow.

Take Rt 123 South and follow for 3.2 miles.

On the left, you will see the Pitcher Mt. Fire Tower sign; park in the parking lot.

You will see three trails (a road to the far left, a footpath directly in front, and a road to the far right - both roads usually have chains across them); take the trail to the far right.

The hike is a fairly easy one until you get to the open field and then it becomes steaper (bear left to follow the trail.)

Just when you are ready to give up you will come to a ramshackle cottage with a flagpole; look up and you will see the fire tower.

Standing at the northeast cable of the tower (be careful, the firetower will affect your compass if you are too close) look 60 degrees and you will see a small scrub pine tree.

Walk to the tree and turn to face the tower.

Right in front of you (at 220 degrees) you will see two large rocks/boulders next to each other; walk to the opposite side.

Look under the slab of rock stuck in between the stones and you will find your prize! ( Please place that slab of stone back carefully so the letter box will be hidden - you have to place it just right. Thank you.)

Pitcher Mt. is COVERED with wild blueberry bushes! This means two things: #1 in late July and early August you can bring containers and pick as you go on the trail or take the "far left" trail in the parking lot and go out to the blueberry fields #2 you may encounter a bear. As of July 2005, the rangers ask that you donate .75 per quart and there is one mama bear with at least one cub.
