Please note that this Letterbox has been reported missing. If anyone is in the vicinity, please check this out and confirm. Thank you.

DESCRIPTION

This Letterbox is an easy find in Pennypack Park in NE Philadelphia, PA.

To access this Letterbox, park on Woodward at Old Newtown. If you live in the area, you may know where this intersection is located. Being tourists from out of state, we were fortunate to have our GPS to provide directions to the starting spot. We unsuccessfully tried to find the Mint Eagle and the Ben Franklin Letterboxes starting from Woodward and Old Newtown. We have no idea where we were and are unable to provide more accurate directions to the starting point.

In any event, we thought it best to place a Letterbox in Pennypack Park with detailed instructions as to its location.

CLUES

Make your way across Woodward to the trail head at the end of Old Newtown.

Proceed about 20 yards to a fork in the trail.

Go left on a dirt trail for about 75 yards where you will intersect a paved bike trail.

Follow the bike trail to the right for about 100 yards to the steel bridge crossing the river.

Immediately after crossing the bridge, take the trail to your left which follows the river.

Proceed about 300 yards along this trail from the bridge until you see a large rock outcropping hanging over the trail.

Stand under the overhang point of this structure and then proceed a further 6 yards along the trail.

Look uphill toward the left end of this rock outcropping.

About 8 yards uphill from your position, near the left end of the outcropping at ground level, there is a V in the rock outcropping wherein rests the Pennypack Park Letterbox.

To the left of the Letterbox hiding spot there is a fallen tree while, about 3 yards to the right of the hiding spot, there are one medium sized tree and some smaller scrub trees.

The Pennypack Park Letterbox is hidden under a pile of stones in the V.

Once you have found the Pennypack Park Letterbox and signed in, thank you for replacing the Letterbox to ensure the integrity of its hiding place.

Please ensure that there are sufficient rocks hiding the Letterbox so that it is well protected from the view of passersby. Thank you.

We hope you enjoy the hike along the river and that you find these directions acceptable in your quest for the Pennypack Park Letterbox.

Please contact us by email at peter@brill.ca to let us know you found this box and the condition it is in, plus any other comments you may have. We look forward to hearing from you.

Happy Letterboxing!
