The NY Winter Wonderland series celebrates the weather that Upstate NY is famous for ... snow, snow and more snow!!!!

Box #4, Snow Storm, is located in Barlow Park, Vestal NY. It is moderate in difficulty, due to the rocky terrain and the creek that the letterbox is located by may get high during flood season or periods of heavy rain. If it looks like the box may be flooded out, I will temporarily remove it until the creek goes back down. If you're travelling from out of town, feel free to contact me ahead of time to see if the box is in place or if you have any questions.

The terrain is NOT stoller-friendly, and dogs are not permitted in any Town of Vestal Parks. But older children should be able to handle the trail just fine.

*** Please note - at this point there is NO stamp pad in the box. Please plan on using your own.

Directions to Barlow Park
From Rt 434 (Vestal Parkway) turn onto Main Street in Vestal. Depending on which way you're coming from, head AWAY from the Big Lots plaza and the muffler store. If you cross a big green bridge, you've gone the wrong way.
Continue on Main Street for approximately .4 miles until you see Barlow Park on your right.

Clues to Snow Storm:

1. Park in the lot. You'll see a large line of pine trees with a wooden fence behind them. Follow the trees until you come to a break in the fence heading downhill into a wooded section.
2. Once you enter the woods, there is a small path leading down towards the creek. Continue along the path until you come to a triangle shaped intersection. Bear left at this intersection. It will seem like you're heading back the same direction you came. Do NOT go in the direction of the big fallen tree.
3. After a few steps, you will see 2 small rocky paths to your right leading directly down to the creek. Follow the second path and stand on the edge of the opening onto the creek bed.
4. Take some time to explore the creek bed - it's a pretty neat place to poke around. When you're finished, go back to the entrance of the path you just came from.
5. Take 12 steps back up the path into the woods.
6. On your left, several steps off the path, is a large tree. Look carefully in one of it's many crooks and branches to find a frosty surprise, covered by rocks to keep it safe from prying eyes and floods!

Please take care to hide the box so that the next letterboxer can enjoy it as well. This is a replant with a new image on the stamp, as the original was lost in the June flood exactly one year ago on the day of the replant. I have it wedged in pretty tightly with rocks, and am asking that you do the same. Also, please let me know that you've found the box, and if it needs any maintenence.
