The NY Winter Wonderland series celebrates the weather that Upstate NY is famous for ... snow, snow and more snow!!!!

Box #3, Snow Squalls, is located in Magnolia Park, Vestal NY. We found this little park totally by accident ... we got lost dropping Soccerchick off for a birthday party in the area and stumbled onto the park looking for a place to turn around. The terrain is NOT stoller-friendly, and dogs are not permitted in any Town of Vestal Parks. But older children should be able to handle the trail just fine.

Directions to Magnolia Park:
From Rt. 434 (Vestal Parkway) in either direction, turn onto Airborne Road. It's the traffic light at JoAnn Fabrics, and there's only one way to turn. At the top of Airborne, take a left onto Imperial Woods, and an immediate right onto Magnolia Drive. Follow Magnolia Drive to the end and Magnolia Park

Clues to Snow Squalls:

1. Park in the small parking lot directly in front of the park. Head towards the baseball backstop to your right, and follow the tree line AWAY from the parking lot until you come to an opening in the trees.

2. In front of you is a "trail". Nothing formal, probably the result of some local off-roading after hours. Follow this trail up the hill approximately 80 paces.

3. The trail veers off at this point, but directly ahead of you is a very large multi-limbed tree. Walk directly towards this tree (about 16 paces)

4. Once you get to the base of the tree, go to the opposite side. Line yourself up against the trunk, with the "seat" at your back (this will make sense once you have seen the tree).

5. To your direct left is a tree shaped just like an elephant's foot. This has absolutely nothing to do with the letterbox, I just thought it was a neat tree.

6. Straight ahead of you is a fallen soldier. Walk 17 paces to the base of this denizen of the forest. In amoung it's roots and some flat rocks you'll find what you're looking for.

This park has been pretty deserted every time we've been there, but still please take care to hide the box carefully so the next person can enjoy it. Please let me know when you find it, and if it needs any maintenence
