The Long & Winding Road letterbox is located at the Top
of Peak 8 in Breckenridge.
*** PEAK 8 CLOSED UNTIL SUMMER 2009 ***
Take Ski Hill Road to the Peak 8 Fun Park parking lot
You will have to purchase a ticket ($5) to ride the
Peak 8 SuperChair to the top of Peak 8. - The ride and
the view from the top are worth it!
After riding up the SuperChair, exit the lift and turn RIGHT, walking uphill.
Follow the trail until you come to an information sign on
Moonworts just off the trail near pine trees.
Walk 50 paces from this sign on the main trail (headed West toward the peak) through a small 'grove' of pine trees.
Look to your left for a short "trail" that vears left and find a Granite Marker in the ground that says:
Jack Randall "Randy"
McMurdy
Live, Laugh, Love
Looking directly uphill (SW) you should see a dead, fallen tree pointing almost directly at the marker.
Walk about 14 paces uphill SW from the marker to the base of the falen tree.
The letterbox is buried in a cavity on the downhill (or North) side of the tree base under rocks and bark.
Replace & hide carefully.
**update: The Fun Park is closed after Labor Day until Ski Season. This box will be very difficult to find in the winter.
