***THIS BOX WENT MISSING IN 5/07 BY 2 INDEPENDENT REPORTS. i WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REPLACE IT. IT IS OFFICIALLY RETIRED**

DIRECTIONS: From I-94 N heading toward the Blue Water Bridge to Canada, exit at Pine Grove St., (this is the last exit before you reach Canada) turn right at Garfield (3rd street on right) and head to the water. The street ends at Lighthouse Park.

HISTORY: Fort Gratiot was established in 1814 to guard the juncture of Lake Huron and the St. Clair River. It was constructed in 1825 and then rebuilt in 1828 after it fell. It is the oldest lighthouse in Michigan. Tours of the lighthouse can be arranged with at least 24 hours of advanced notice (810-984-2603).

ACTIVITIES: Lighthouse Park is a small city beach. It is open for public swimming with lifeguards on duty from mid June to Labor Day. Bring shoes since this beach is not sandy (it's rocky!). There is also shaded picnic areas and a playground. Bring your camera for photos of the historic lighthouse and Blue Water Bridge even it you don't schedule a tour.

HIKE: This letterbox is practically a drive up box since the walk is so short, but you do have to get out of your car and head toward the beach (but that is about it).

CLUE: As you reach the beach four soldiers stand proud and tall upon the sand. Seek the one farthest to the south and rest your back upon him. Face the great beacon and look for the stand of trees that duplicates the number of soldiers. To the right of this group is a lone tree. Gaze between the group and the loner, and you will see the tree you seek just beyond them. Go to it and look what it hold between its two branches.

NOTE: This microbox is very distant for me and unlikely to be maintained. It will depend upon the kindness of strangers to tell me of its condition. Please take extra care to see that it is completely hidden from view when you replant it. Please also be aware of who may be looking on this very public beach to avoid its disappearance later. Also, bring a pen and ink.
