I discovered this walking/biking path along Clear Creek when I was back in Iowa City for a visit. What memories it brought back! As a young girl I went to Girl Scout camp here - Camp Cardinal. So I decided a letterbox was in order.

There are a couple possible approaches to this box. One parking area is off US 6 (2nd Street) near the west end of Coralville across from the big mall. Turn south on 25th Avenue and park in the gravel parking area. The biking/walking trail has a terminus here. Travel east on the trail for a bit more than 1/2 mile and cross Rotary Camp road. Shortly there will be a bridge over Clear Creek. From the east end of the bridge count about 50 cement sections of pathway. At this point the trail will start to climb & on the south side there is a large maple tree very close to the trail. About three cement sections ahead you'll see a stone retaining wall. At the large tree leave the trail & go south up the hill for 25 steps. You should be at another large tree. Check the base of it under bark & leaves for the box.

This box could also be approached by turning south on 22nd avenue going past the post office; continuing on Rotary Camp road across the bridge over the creek & up the hill to the Rotary camp on the left. You can park there & follow the trail through the area to where it meets the cement trail. You'll need to turn left (west) and follow the trail down the hill past the retaining wall to find the above mentioned large maple tree.

As of July 2006 this box may be missing. Sorry but I don't get back to Iowa very often anymore so can't check up on it.
