This letterbox is located in The Corine Cemetary next to Friendship Baptist Church. This site is marked with a Historical Marker. The first known burial in the cemetary was in 1866 but there are many graves that are simply covered with iron ore rocks that were there prior to 1866. It is still unknown who is buried there.

This place is very dear to me. I grew up going to church at Friendship and my parents still attend there. I remember dinner on the grounds in the area where the new pavillion is as well as picking up Hickory nuts to the right of the church. As children my parents attended school here, and yes they walked to school. They both lived down the road to the left of the cemetary. My Grandmother was one of the early teachers at the school.

Directions to the Cemetary:

From Jacksonville, take Hwy. 79 going towards Tyler. Go over the overpass and take the first left, which will be Cherokee Streeet.

Fron Tyler, take Hwy. 79 to Jacksonville. When you get to the overpass take a right on Cherokee Street. Do not go over the overpass.

At the stop sign on Cherokee Street go right onto N. Bolton Street. At the next red light take a left onto Kickapoo Street. You will travel down this road for 1.8 miles until you come to the Lakeview Community. At the stop sign take a left.

From this point on sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery, this is one of the most gorgeous drives in the area, especially in the summer and fall. As you travel to Corine I would like to point out several places that have meaning to me.

From Lakeview at mile 1.3 on the left you will see a house. This is the home of Mrs. Margie, who was my Sunday School teacher for many years.

At mile 2.5, at the intersection of CR 3306, on December 27, 1949, my Granny gave birth to Baby Rhonda. She was unable to make it to the hospital. Unfortunately, the baby did not make it. My granny lived to be 98 years old and had 10 children total.

At mile 4.4 is the home site of Brother Mason and Elizabeth Grey. Just about every Sunday we would have lunch here after church and romp and play in the surrounding pastures.

At mile 4.5 there is a road on the left hand side that goes to the late Mr. J.P. Walkers house. For approximately 16 years as I was growing up, he would give me a quarter every Sunday at church. I would be a rich woman if I had saved all my quarters! I saw him before he was killed in a tractor accident when I was in my twenties and he gave me another quarter.

At mile 4.9 you will see the Pugh's home. On this property there are several Indian Burial Grounds that are very well protected by all the generations of the Pugh Family.

At mile 5.1 there is a home on the right. It has now fallen into not so caring hands but this was once the home of my great uncle Claude and great aunt Eva. I remember summer days and dinner out under the trees as well as the good old spring water running from their faucets. She also had a huge blackberry patch that people came from all over to pick from. On most days you would see my uncle Claude laying on a cot out under the trees taking a nap.

At mile 5.7 you will see Friendship Baptist Church to your left. Travel past the entrance and when the road y's stay to the left and you will see Corine Cemetary. Read the historical marker to the left. It is pretty interesting.

Finally, Directions to the Letterbox:

1. Enter the gate and go to the 3rd tree on your right.
2. On the left side of this tree there are 2 rocks, the letterbox is under the rectangular shaped rock.

Please rehide well and enjoy.
