Round Lake Nature Preserve

From US 31 in Petoskey, take M-119 about 1 1/2 miles north to Powell Road. Turn right on Powell and thake the 1st driveway to right, which is the entrance to the Little Traverse Conservancy office. The trailhead is directly off the parking lot. You may want to dress in long pants and long sleeve shirts to protect yourself from frequent inhabitants of Round Lake-Mosquitoes. Keep your bug spray handy, just in case.

Follow the trail until it forks into 2 paths. Head easy-a smaller path is now your way.

Up and down, uneven ground, a pleasant hike in shaded pines.

A massive tree of termityes you will pass-a decision soon you must make.

Lake Veiw Platform is a great side trip but not the way to treasure.

Pass a 6 trucked tree on the south side of the trail and you are almost there.

Another Trail? What should you do? Go south!

13 is your lucky number. Take 13 paces to a fallen, moss covered tree. Turn east and take 15 paces to a 5 trucked tree. Turn 20 degrees North and go 8 paces. A fallen tree you will find. Look into the bottom and treasure you will find.

Take a seat on Nature-Made benches and the search the treasure in our letterbox.

Retrace your steps to return to the parking lot. Visit another letterbox at "The Headlands" in Mackinaw City. Anoither great place to explore and a future letterbox site is "Oden Island Nature Preserve" in Crooked Lake by Petosky.

Please contact Wolfiewolf @ nonpub@sbcglobal.net with comments or if the box needs attention.

Thanks for enjoying letterboxing with us.
