Slightly different clues as of 11/6/11.

Box has been replaced with a new/dry logbook, and clean new stamps. Hidden nearby old location...see below.

This is a very short hike for those tiny hikers, tired folks or those with limited time!

Directions:

Located on Turkey Mountain, a public space on Rt 118 ~ approximately 1 mile north of Rt 129 in Yorktown Heights, NY. ~ or ~ 2 miles south of the Triangle Shopping Center. The entrance is directly across from Peter Pratt's Inn.

Other boxes in this Preserve: Sneaky Snake's Lair / The Midnight Owl / Mouse's Mountain Shelter / No Bells In This Tower

Clue:

It was almost sunrise and Willy Jr. & his cousin Wally the raccoons had just scavenged the last of a boloney sandwich from the parking lot trashcan. They knew that they should get back home soon because the hikers would be arriving, and the thought of seeing a raccoon in daylight terrified them! With the last of the bread crusts in their tiny paws they scampered down the white trail, when they came to the yellow dots on a tree that reminded them of their loving mothers paw prints they scurried off to the right. They bounded up the four steps, and finished the rest of their tasty morsels.

Taking 132 raccoon sized paces (or 33 human steps) they stopped at the marker on a tree ~ the color of a scrumptious cherry. Going left they went down seven more steps...they stopped to listen, and make sure no hungry owl, coyote, or other predator was around ~ because they were almost home!

Going right they ran the last 180 raccoon sized paces (or 45 human steps) down to their tree straight ahead. Now, facing their old house (they got too many 'unwanted' visitors here), look over your left shoulder to the tree with a boulder in front. Ahh...a little more privacy!

Thanks for checking out these tired old raccoons home.

Please leave the box well hidden, and please let us know about your 'visit.'
