The Wonderful Tour of the Ancient World Letterbox Series
We put the “wonder” in wonderful

Are you feeling hung up over vacation plans?
Are you just dead on your feet?
Do you need someone to look up to?
Want somewhere where you can sit down and feel like a god?
Looking for a high point in your travels?
Are you looking for a place where the people will worship you?
Is your life not as light as it was?

. . . Well, we have the solution for you!

Join us on an adventure three thousand years in the making but with the wonders of today’s conveniences you can enjoy in only three miles. Your glamorous flight will be aboard the renowned “Wildwood” airlines. From our conveniently located parking lot just outside the Oregon Zoo, walk up the hill past the World Forestry Center to find a map of the Hoyt Arboretum on your left. This will guide you to your departure gate with “Wildwood” airlines.

Before too long you will be met by “Prunus Incisa”, your friendly, helpful flight attendant. She will walk you 77 yards to your terminal where you flight will depart at 3:55. As your flight descends you will be able to view out the right window the gift Prometheus gave to man. Not too much farther you will land in Babylon where one of Zeus’s defective lightening bolts has landed in the foliage above. Delve deep beneath the tip of the bolt and you will reveal the famous Hanging Gardens of Babylon!

Continuing back to your flight on “Wildwood” airlines you will pass one of Hades’ blue gems on your right. 28 cubits later you will stand between a wall of Gaea on your left and the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus on your right. Don’t feel stumped if you can’t see it at first. For a better vantage of this wonderful monument insert your quarter into the slot and reach down into the depths of Halicarnassus for your “prize.”

As you continue your flight the path will broaden as you pass through the legs of Atlas. A mere 70 cubits later you will reach the “Pillars of Hercules”. Just another 35 cubits more until you can see Cupids training field and play ground on the right and the Island of Rhodes to the left. Deep within the bowels of the Island you will come upon, if luck is with you, the majestic Colossus.
Continuing on, we will take a brief pit stop. Be sure as you change planes not to change airlines, “MAC” will steer you astray. Stick with us for now, “Wildwood” the airline you can trust! We will take you to the city of Olympia (that’s in Greece, not Washington) to see the magnificent Throne of Zeus! Before you arrive there you will pass Castor and Pollux. Please forgive Castor’s rather bumpy appearance, after a few thousand years it’s hard to stay as lovely and smooth as your immortal brother. Be patient, we’re almost there, only 56 cubits ahead before your altitude will drop quickly on your right. Take a seat in Zeus’ sitting room and reach under your seat to find a miniature version of Zeus’ glorious throne.

Readjust your altitude until you are back at cruising level. Half way through your travels you will make a brief appearance in Giza, located only 20 cubits from the B.M.L. Civilization greets “u” through the trees on the right and Giza is to the left. The Pyramids are located down but up in central Giza. Confused? A little persistence, and a little arm go a long way.
As you continue to meander a half-mile from Giza you will encounter turbulence in the form of a knobbly tree. “This is the captain speaking, we will begin to climb in altitude sharply to the left. You will soon spot a large stump-shaped cloud on the left. The goddess Artemis is waiting for you in a smaller stump shaped cloud on the left.”

Your journey on “Wildwood” airlines has now come to an end. You will have a slight layover in Hera’s seasonal garden, known for it’s fine airline “Magnolia.” This journey will take you across the river Styx and to the “Walk Up Hell” (as you read this you may hear a low booming voice saying those three words with you). You will soon cross the river Styx again and encounter the not quite pearly gates on the other side. Walk a further 12 cubits at 140. Where you may sit, rest, and remember your “wonder”ful journey. Now roll away the piece of arboreal detritus and let the light shine through in Alexandria!

Enjoy finding your way home. Stop off at our menagerie at the Zoo.
