****Box is alive and well as of 6/17/2009****

Start at the Southeast corner of University Avenue and Gibbs Street. Follow the footprints.

Pass the "Seventh Spirit" rising above the hedges on your left. The small bronze angel by Dexter Benedict, gets its name from Shakespeare's description of the seven stages of man, the seventh stage when man has "become lean, spectacles on nose and pouch on side - his big manly voice turning again toward childish treble, pipes and whistles in his sound." Count the wings. [Alas, the Seventh Spirit has been STOLEN! It had two wings.]

Continue walking to the corner and turn left.

Walk until you see an iron bar gate (on your left). At the far end of the courtyard, you will see "Dancers." Created by Peter Macon, this piece was laser cut from a flat sheet of CorTen steel then bent into its lyrical shape.

To the right are the Elders - ten-foot tall clay creatures by Brockport artist Bill Stewart. Note the residence number (on the wall of the courtyard) that houses these sculptures.

Continue walking to the corner. Make a 90-degree turn to your right and view the "Lawn Mower Trellis" complete with what looks to be croquet balls. Cross over to the "Lawn Mower Trellis." Count the balls.

Make another 90-degree turn to your right and continue walking along the sidewalk. (You are walking back toward Gibbs St., but on the other side of the street.)

On the left, you will pass "The Mask" – in summer it hides behind a tall-growing bush.

Keep walking and find the "Gentle Woman", which looks more like a lizard or a serpent. You be the judge. Note the residence number from which it hangs.

Continue walking to the corner. Turn 90-degrees left and stand in the middle of the “electric circle” on the ground. Add the two residence numbers. Multiply by 2. Subtract the number of balls. Add the number of wings. Take this many “urban” steps to a small sidewalk on your left. (If you reach the hitching post, you went too far.)

There is a bricked area in front of two small windows.Four bricks are placed in the opposite direction from the other bricks. Look under these bricks. [Please replace the bricks carefully and in the same manner as you found them.]

It is probably best to take the letterbox across the street and sit on the Bette Midler bench while stamping (The bench is removed in the winter - it is only available spring, summer and autumn.) and then replace the box in its location. This is a very public area.

Please bring your own ink pad and pen/pencil.
