One day, a gorgeous little calico kitten went kayaking on Elkhorn Slough. The morning started out as most do, calm waters, sun shining, and a small tide variable. The kitty set out to do some "birding", and she got distracted by all the flying creatures one can see on the slough. On her return to the headwaters, the wind picked up something fierce! She paddled and paddled but just couldn't quite make it back past the bridge to where she put in near the Moss Landing Marina. Won't you please go and keep her company on the small sandy beach where she is resting?

To get there, a kayak is the most fun and direct route. if you have your own, great, if not, we rented from the Moss Landing Monterey Bay Kayaks. Be sure to make a day of your paddle because it's a great place to view lots of wildlife. (If you're familiar with this area, you may realize that it is possible to reach this location without a kayak, but we don't recommend it)
After you get on the water, cross under the bridge. You will see a small sandy beach in front of you about 200 yards on the shore closest to the 2 moss-landing towers. After pulling your boat all the way up out of the water, find and stand on top of what appears to be the "tallest" sand dune (it's really quite small). From there, you may be able to spot what appears to be a random cement wall in the middle of nothing (it's actually wood you'll realize when you're closer). It is appx. 3' x 10' with a rusty metal "brace" sticking out the front of it. Kayakin Kitty is resting out of the wind behind that "shelter" (check under some driftwood and a big white shell).
Enjoy the rest of your paddle!
