07/03/05 NOTE: This box is temporarily out of service due to hungry critters taking a liking to the stamp! However one must follow these clues first to find USS Cobia (even without finding the ducks).

This box is part of the 2005 Great Lakes Hometown Letterbox exchange. The box was created by Delirium and placed by Grandvilla. The Peabody Ducks are famous in Memphis, TN (across the border from Delirium's home in Mississippi). When you find the box, you will find out about those Peabody Ducks!

The box is located in Linus C. Palmer Park in Wyoming, MI. Wyoming is southwest of Grand Rapids.
Directions
Linus C. Palmer Park is located in Wyoming, MI at 1275-52nd St. S.W.
It can be reached from US131.From the North, take the 44th St. exit. Go West to Clyde Park. Turn left (South) on Clyde Park to 52nd St. Turn right (West) on 52nd St. From the South take the 54th St. exit. West to Clyde Park. Turn right (North) on Clyde Park to 52nd St. Turn left (West) on 52nd St. The entrance to the park is about 1/2 block on your right. You appear to be entering a golf course. The entrance to the park runs through LE Kauffman golf course. Continue along the drive 1/2 mile until you see the entrance to the park and picnic area on the left. Park in the first parking area.

Note: Be aware of poison ivy!! In the Spring be mindful of the wildflowers. Park is closed from Oct. 31st to May 1st.

Clues: If I were a Peabody Duck, I wouldn't have to slide down the orange slide with a window and walk at 300 degrees (past the steak sauce) to the trail that heads West! When I came to a crossing, I wouldn't have to take the trail at 165 degrees. I wouldn't have to think about lots of downed trees! If I were a Peabody Duck, I would ignore the next intersection , and I wouldn't have to decide to go straight and end up at a place where I could go no further! But, Noooo, I am a Palmer Duck so I just have to bear right and end up on a hard path heading in a Northerly direction. A Peabody Duck is above noticing an "island" Pine with many arms as he passed it by looking for the next path at 120 degrees past that tree. I'll just waddle along that path and bear left at the next intersection. I'm sure the Peabody Duck, when given the choice, would take the path with the bench that keeps me on the softer path. (tho the Peabody Duck really would never have to make such a choice). Well, it IS nice to be able to look at all the beautiful variegated foliage! Oh my...what would a Peabody Duck do about such a strangely painted rock? I'll just go on to the 4 trunked "maple grove". Wow, would that be a great place to hide?...or not..:-( Guess going North is still the best plan. OK, I have walked quite a way now and I have had it! It is obvious that I will never have it a good as the Peabody Ducks! It is time for this Palmer Duck to settle down. Whoa...what an unusual Cherry tree (Cherry trees have very "flaky" bark)? It starts with four and reaches up with six! I'll continue on about 47 paces, then turn 30 degrees N of W, and at 12 paces, I shall snuggle down and dream about one day joining the Peabody Ducks!

After you have tucked the ducks back in, get out your directions to the USS Cobia and continue on.
