~1/1/08 I went back out today and replaced the missing box (#2 Soccer Ball). It has a slightly different hiding spot.

12/11/07 Unfortunately, Box #2 (Soccer) has rolled away. I went out and checked it today (with a pry bar for the ice) and could not find it 8-(

Birthday Wishes for Roalie Goalie

There is a wonderful young lady that I have the pleasure of calling my daughter. She was my original hiking partner and is still the best finder/hider of boxes that I have ever met. She is having a birthday and I wanted to do something special in her honor. I hope you enjoy them Roalie Goalie.

There is only one log book to this series and it is in the last box. You will need to bring markers with you for the stamps. Also, it appears that this trail is usually muddy, at least in some spots, so wear boots!

Find your way to Herrick Park in Bolton, CT. Park in the large lot and find your way to the start of the Nature Trail.

Box #1-Track
Roalie can run like the wind and is so graceful when doing it. It is a pleasure to watch her.
Walk down the white blazed trail for a little bit until you notice a large, waist-high rock on your right. This rock is right on the trail. Stop here and look ahead just a little to the left. You will see a two-sister tree that only has one sibling remaining. Again right alongside the trail. Go to it and look in the hollow for the first box. Please re-hide well.

Box #2-Soccer
Roalie has played soccer for quite a few years. She has made some incredible plays and really done well. It is a little tough to watch her get hurt in the games though(including a broken wrist)!
Continue on the white trail and cross over a stream on a large, flat stone bridge. Be sure to follow the blazes after crossing the water and go to "higher" ground. Do not be fooled by the woods road. Very quickly, on your left, you will see the "leaning tower of Pisa" tree. It is quite near the edge of the trail. Go to it. Look under the burl that is near the ground for the second box. This has now been moved to the opposite side of the tree in a small hollow at its base. Again, please re-hide well.

Box #3-Simba
Roalie has liked the Lion King ever since it first came out when she was only two. Simba has a special place in her heart as she does in mine.
Continue going on the white blazed trail and you will come to a four-way intersection. Go straight across and continue up a gentle hill. You will quickly see a large Beech tree on your left. From here, go 50 steps more along the trail and you will come to a yellow Birch tree that rather resembles a lion's shaggy mane. Take a compass reading of due North and go about seventeen and one half steps to a fallen tree. Look at the root end of this tree for the third box. And yet again, please re-hide well.

Head back to your car the way that you came. I hope you enjoyed the walk.

Happy Birthday Roalie Goalie!!!
