This box is part of the Great Lakes "Hometown Landmarks" LB exchange, with the wonderful stamp created by Flagbearer.

Columbus Township Belle River Roadside Park is located just north of Bauman Road on Gratiot Ave. To get there (just for fun) try to take M53, as it's also called the Christopher Columbus Freeway (be sure to map ahead).

After parking (not much choice where), begin your journey in the same general direction that Columbus headed to find the New World (well, in his mind, Asia). As you leave civilization behind, you’ll keep the water’s edge at port.
Sailors of old spoke of mermaids and dragons, and HERE THERE BE MONSTERS! A great serpent stretches from across the water (while others swim closer), beckoning to you, but don’t heed his call. Enjoy the journey, as it is often as exciting as the destination. You know, Columbus and his crew took over 2 months to arrive at the Bahamas on his first voyage...
A mighty two-headed giant near the water has changed the flow of the current (with the help of his equally strong brother, just further on...)
Let your path meander with the water...
A small "overlook" offers a quick respite, but you will turn starboard (away from the largest serpent yet) and descend (but beware of mud-men). After shaking off the muck, tread lightly around the three-headed rock-hydra at the water's edge, who rises up to block your way.
Columbus and his crew also surmounted the hydra, sailing on, past the slippery, rocky cliffs that you must scale, ever mindful of the dangers all arould you. The explorer now faced a choice, as his means of travel now split, an island of serpents looming in the center of the waters. After much deliberation, weary from travel and unable to decide, Columbus anchored to a lone boulder on the shore, which now marks the final resting place of the Santa Maria...
It may not be the New World, but you have certainly discovered something!

The box is located deep in the roots between the trees and the boulder. You'll have to reach into the grotto. Please be extra cautious and replace the box exactly as it was hidden: behind the two rocks (shielded with leaves) with the camo side facing up. This is Christopher Columbus and not Marco......Polo!
