EAGLE’S NEST
Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, there lived a little eagle. One day he managed to wander away from his nest and found himself in the parking lot down by the river, where he saw people putting canoes in the water. So he decided to make an adventure of it. Off he set exploring a path that was made of a rubbery stuff. Just a little ways down the path, he came to a sign that told him the path was made of recycled tires. He though that was really cool. So on he went and found another sign that told him what other animals that he might see on his adventure. He crossed a bridge that was made of stuff that looked like wood but wasn’t really wood. He was glad that some trees had been saved. On down the path he came across a sign that had a picture of his mom and dad feeding his brothers. There was also a “perch” by that sign.

Next on the path, he came across the old tree his dad had told him about. “This tree must have been huge”, he thought. But now it looked like a good place to play hide and seek. Over another bridge and on down the path he went.

He came to a sign that said “#21 Sugarberry Tree”, so he walked up to the tree and gave it a lick, but it wasn’t sweet at all. So he went on down the path over more bridges and past more perches and to the end of the tire trail. Here he decided to go southward. He came to the (#24)paw-paw patch on the left then a dogwood(#25). He waited around for a few minutes to see if the dogwood would bark, but it never did so on he went. He went over a small wooden bridge and then on the southeast trail. Then the trail forked again and he continued south. Staying southward, another trail came in on the right. A perch was at the top of the hill near a gnarly tree. At the next fork, he went southwest not down hill, then left and not to the fence. Toward the fence seems to be where the smell is coming from.

He came to a big intersection and continued on southward past many sister trees. Around the curve he saw a big dead tree and in front of it a sign that told how important dead trees are to the animals in the forest. On he hopped around to the (#31) short leaf pine tree. From this sign, he went 35 hops or human steps, to a tree with a small hole in it close to the trail on the right. From this tree he went 10 hops at a bearing of 230 degrees to a small holly tree. There he saw a large pile of rocks and found his nest hidden in the hole at the base of the larger tree covered with rocks.

After replacing the rocks, he continued down the trail from the tree with the hole. He took the 1st trail to the left and went downhill to the picnic shelter and parking lot where his mom and dad were waiting for him with lunch.
