Many things occur on river trips. There can be screwups of all kinds, and boatmen can have really stressful periods that can run the gamut from flips, swimmers, tube stands, and wraps. Even on the darkest periods it seems as though someone would always come to the rescue. That rescue could be a timely throwbag, help gathering gear and people, or it could be great timing on an offer of a cold beer in camp after that stressful run. Sometimes everything is clicking and all of your runs seem picture perfect, and you know that you seem to be able to hit all of the rapids in the right spot. The rescues, and perfect runs are the special times and Deb came up with her own award, she would run up to you and declare that you were the “Star of the Day!”, and give you a big hug. For those that knew Deb the date of this plant, and it’s location are obvious, and you should go spend sometime just below “The Flume”, and think of her. Everyone else can checkout a pretty view of the river, find the nice sandy beach and take a few minutes to think about the folks you love; they are your “Stars of the Day”.

Clues: Box checked on Feb 1, 201l. The area was burned during the July 26, 2010 fire but the crevis kept the box well protected. Although the bushes are gone the crevis is covered by a green plant now. Be careful in replanting the box as it wants to slide.

Head north on Sierra Hwy from Kernville and turn left into the Chico Flat unimproved camping area about 5.5 miles north of the Kernville chicken. Look for the first Chico Flat sign on your left, then there will be a telephone pole on your left, then another larger Chico Flat in yellow and brown (Forest Service style)sign on your left. From the next telephone just up the road past the clearing there is another telephone pole located on the left. Stand in front of the pole and look 10 degrees toward a vertical crevice on the opposite side of the road. The letterbox is located approximately 3 feet high in the crevice covered with movable rocks.

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.
