Clue image
The following clues are actually a suggested route to follow to find a large number of area boxes in what I deem to be the most efficient manner. The only actual set of clues included are the ones for the "Layman Church Cemetery". The included 23 boxes and 24 stamps will reference some history, some scenery, some interesting stops and some just for fun. One other thing.....a simplified map of this area can be found at :

http://www.mariettaohio.org/history/bridges.php along with a reference for interesting sites in the area, some of which you will find on this loop.NOTE: APPARENTLY THE WEB SITE HAS CHANGED AND THE MAP NO LONGER LOCATED HERE. I CAN PROVIDE ONE IF YOU WILL E MAIL ME WITH A RETURN E MAIL ADDRESS THAT WILL ACCEPT ATTACHMENTS.

Please bring a stamp pad, an old rag or gloves, compass and a pen.

Clues:
Find the wide spot in the road of Barlow Ohio located west of Marietta, Oh about 13 miles on H.W. 550 or about 5 miles west of Belpre, Oh on H.W. 7 and 9 miles north on H.W. 339 as a starting point. (using your map of the area you can start anywhere on the loop). I have arbitrarily picked "Found Aplenty In Ohio" and will go counter clockwise on a map with a couple of diversions from the clock and back again. Ok, here we go............ After Found Aplenty in Ohio, go to "Not Found Wild In Ohio", followed by "Bell Covered Bridge", "Harra Covered Bridge and then back to Mill Branch Bridge". Next comes "Unusual at A Rest Stop". After finishing "Unusual at a Rest Stop" get back on 550 and head west for 2.4 miles and turn left on T17, Tick Ridge Road and go find the "Choo Choo" letterbox. When done with it come back to 550 and go west 1/10 mile and turn right on onto Brownrigg Road (CR6). (NOTE: If you wish to just find this one box(Layman Church Cemetery) , Brownrigg road is 3.1 mile from the flashing light at Barlow) You will see the cemetery on the right and the church on the right a little further up the road. Stop at the pull off on the right, in front of the cemetery and walk down the hill (east) to the far fence line. You will see a broken over tree toward the northern fence line and you should proceed to that tree. (Note: be very careful around this tree due to the long thorns growing from it) At its base you will find the "Layman Church Cemetery" Letterbox under a rock. Discretely get the box, do the stamping, reseal everything well and return the box to its hideaway. When done stamping head for the church to view the redo of the outside color scheme and the fine steel roof. I think the church has a very pleasing exterior design and appearance. From here you get back on 550 west and head for "Ferngully", turning left 3.1 miles west on 550 at Clark Road. (Note: Ferngully is missing)
After "Ferngully" continue southwest on Clark Road 9/10 mile until you intersect H.W. 555 where you will turn left. Proceed south on 555 6/10 mile to Morris road (just before Centenary Church) and turn left on Morris to the "Cutler Underground Railroad" letterbox. Return down Morris to 555 and take a left for another 1.7 miles, passing through Cutler and on to where you will see the large stone in a front yard on the left. You can pull off the road or go into the drive way of that residence for a short way and time to view the inscription on the large grindstone.

When done with pictures or whatever continue on south on 555 another 1.8 miles until you see Burnett Road (CR 6) on your left and you will turn on to it and go 6/10 mile to the "Root Covered Bridge" letterbox...which is missing but: (NOTE: This box is missing but GSD1s Two Bridges is in the same area.) When done with it, its back to 555 and south 6/10 mile to a left turn at the church onto Veto Road (CR 3) .

Go east on Veto Road (3) 1 mile to the Decatur Presbyterian Cemetery and turn in to the right to the closest part of the parking lot and find the "Decatur Cemetery" letterbox. Next proceed east on Veto Road 4.4 miles until reaching H.W. 339. You are 1/2 way around the loop at this point and have found 12 stamps, hopefully.
Coninue straight ahead on Veto road and continue east then turn off left to "N.C. (North Carolina) Safari ". When done with that one look across the lake at the shelter and small block building just to the left of it. There is where your headed next to find "Veto Keeper". When done with it head back to Veto Road. Back on Veto Road go east ~ 2 miles to a little cemetery on the left where you will find "Eisenhower". When done with the Eisenhower, continue proceeding N.E. on Veto Road (CR 3) to the "Cutler Chapel" letterpouch. When done with it continue on Veto Road until Passing a Rail Road crossing and look right for the "Constitution Ohio" letterbox.

After that one, get on H.W. 7 North ahead by turning left onto it and go about 4.1 miles where you will turn left onto Bender road to find the "Railroad Bridge" and "Gazing Globe". When done with them come back to 7 north and on up north 9/10 mile and pull off at the scenic view for the "Scenic View" letterbox.
When done stamping in on Scenic View, Continue N.E. on H.W. 7 8/10 mile where you will exit onto 550 West. At the bottom of the exit road, turn left and continue on to 550 West. Continue on 550 West for ~ 2.9 miles where you will turn off to the right on Johnson Road and find "Wake Up Call". When done here, get back on 550 west.

Continue on 550 West for another 3.6 miles and turn left onto Goodfellow park road to find "Scenic View Too". That is the last box on the Barlow/Veto loop trail for now and you have found another 10 letterboxes. If you continue west on 550 you will return to the Barlow Cemetery in 4.1 miles. I sincerely hope that you have enjoyed your day and will tell your friends about the boxes located in this area. I request constructive feedback concerning any aspect of my letterboxing placements, stamps, logs, clues etc. Now saddle up and be on your way to where ever.
