PLACED BY: Ruby Tuesday

DIFFICULTY: Easy

DISTANCE to LETTERBOX: 30 yards, very approximately

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: This box (and all our other Flamingo boxes) are planted in Richardson city parks with pools. All have playgrounds, picnic areas and are open to pets on leashes. There is no fee to enter the parks; nominal fee ($1.50) for city pools during the summer months.

DIRECTIONS: Terrace Park: Exit North Central Expressway ( Rte #75) at Arapaho and head east. Take Grove south and then turn right again ( west) on LaSalle.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: When a cloud of pink flamingos migrate, they do so mainly under cover of night with a clear sky and favorable tailwinds. They can travel approximately 373 miles in one night at about 31-37 mph. On a recent night, a flock was flying over Richardson and became confused by the high number of sparkling turquoise pools below. Convinced they had found their tropical home, they swooped in and set up nestkeeping. (The great shopping, excellent school system and abundance of high tech jobs apparently convinced them to stay). Although reclusive, occasionally they can be spotted by diligent birdwatchers still hiding around these pools in the pink of health.

CLUES: Park in the parking lot near the tennis courts. Starting at the SW corner of the courts, follow curving paved sidewalk, keeping the playground on your right.
Ahead of you will be a covered picnic table area. Look to your left at the tennis courts and note the evergreen shrubs which line the chain link fence.
Hey, isn’t that a pink flamingo lodged in the 3rd bush from the SE corner?
Please replace carefully ( and wedge it into the branches tightly) in the exact spot so that future birdwatcher letterboxers will find it, too!
