INTRODUCTION:
McIntosh Reserve Park is a 527-acre facility with over 14 miles of mulituse trails that wind through the reserve and alongside the Chattahoochee River. Visitors to the park can camp, hike and pinic year round. Other activities include biking, equestian, rafting, and model airplanes.
DIRECTIONS:
Starting near Whitesburg, GA at the junction of Alt27 & Rt5 take Rt5 South towards Roopville. Follow two miles to the entrance of McIntosh Reserve Park on the left. Enter the park and turn into the ranger station on the right. There is a small $2 fee for non Carroll county residents.
CLUE:
The creek chief is back in comission, and in a new improved spot, as of 4 JUNE '05
Find the William H. McIntosh memorial headstone. (He was once the chief of the Creek indians) From here bearing 075 find the horse trail heading into the woods, and follow it. As this trail approaches the road, bear left and continue on the trail, over the wooden bridge, and back into the woods. Follow this trail 0.4 miles to a trail intersection. A left turn will take you across the creek and to the playground. A right turn will take you up the trail, which shortly finds another intersection. From the two "TRAIL" signs: Take 21 steps back the way you came, and stop. On your right, 20 feet away is "Creek Chief"'s pow-wow tree.
