This letterbox is hidden near the Ridge Trail, which you will need to hike to find the box.The Ridge Trail is in Cacapon State Parik, 10 miles south of Berkeley Springs WV. The trail is about 1.5 miles long, and covers rocky tnerrain and steep inclines (NOT a stroll) but you are rewarded with a lovely treamside beginning and several scenic vistas along the way. A trail map is available at the park lodge, but the trail is well marked with yellow blazes on trees, and the trail itself is clear.

Following the yellow trail markers alongside the steam, begin your hike. This is the easiest and one of the most delightful sections of the trail, which soon turns uphill toward the ridge. At the top, the trail follows the ridge northward (left).

Become watchful as you pass through a thicket of green briar, and a bit later, the path is strewn with pine needles. Watch carefully for a root in the path that looks like owl eyes. The box is near.
At a point in the trail where there are laurels on both sides, turn into the overlook area on the right. At this overlook there is a pine tree to the right that leans to the left. There is a cluster of boulders bedecked with lichen. To the left, on a mossy path, you will find a cleft in a boulder. Find the Ridge Trail letterbos at ground level, guarded by a small greenbriar, in the boulder's cleft.

If you begin traveling back down the mountain before finding the owl eyes, overlook, and letterbox, you have gone too far and have missed the hiding spot.
