Little Sahara State Park has become a mecca for ATV enthusiasts from a four state area. Quite a change from the time decades ago when a camel was one of the area residents! It is located 4 miles south of Waynoka on State Highway 281 and is a fun experience for the whole family.
To find the letterbox drive into the main entrance of the park, turn right and drive to the park office. Drive around behind the building and park next to the nature trailhead. Start by reading about the different birds - one of which is the main character in our quest, and has been our official state bird since since 1951. Follow the foot trail up to the top of this hill. When you have an opportunity to take a trail left, follow its curve around and up to the observation tower. Climb up and look around. Next to the SE support of the overlook, find the rock covered letterbox.
Waynoka is a very interesting area. It was the sight of America's first intercontinental airport and Ameila Earhardt and Charles Lindbergh were familiar faces in the area for many years!
ALWAYS watch for rattlesnakes in this part of the state. Waynoka has a very famous rattlesnake hunt!
There is a first finder certificate!
