This road is actually called Skyline Dr., which turns into Snow Canyon Parkway. My family has always called it 'Turtle Road' because it is an area of 60,000 acres preserved for animals such as the gila monster, sidewinder rattlesnake, chuckwalla, peregrine falcon, and especially the desert tortoise. The Habitat Conservation Plan was formed to protect the heart of the Washington County desert tortoise population, which is the densest in the area. We always try to catch a glimpse of these creatures while we're driving through, hence our own name of 'Turtle Road'. Rivergeek and I thought it would be the perfect place for a box!

Directions:
From I-15, take the St. George Blvd. exit. Head west. Turn right on 1000 E. Make a left on Skyline Dr. (which will later turn into Snow Canyon Parkway). Go 1.1 miles west. At .9 miles, you'll come to a large parking lot on your right. Keep going. You will immediately pass a large rock with 'DIXIE' written on it. Keep going. Just past this rock, there is another parking lot. Park here.

Clues:
From the Rotary Club of St. George sign, head south. (There are several trails. . .just pick one.) You'll walk up a small hill and see a beautiful view of St. George. Keep walking. You'll be walking next to a rock wall. Walk south until you see a gap in the rocks with a bridge between them. Stand under the bridge and face the 'D' on the mountain accross the valley. At 230*, walk 26 steps to a rock outcropping. There's a hole in the rock that looks towards the road. Just below this hole and to the right is the box in a crack. Enjoy!

If you have time, get back on the road and keep heading west. After several miles (I'm not sure the exact amount), you will come to Snow Canyon Drive which leads to Snow Canyon. (You will see a sign for 'Tuacahn'. This is the road to turn on.) It's a beautiful state park, and worth the visit. There are several short trails, and a few longer ones. There is a $5 entry fee per car.

Bring plenty of water in the summertime. It gets very hot!
