Search for this letterbox at Burney Falls State Park

To the trail head:
From the north on I-5 take highway 89 from the town of Mt. Shasta CA about 55 miles to the park. From the South take highway 299 about 70 miles from the town of Redding to 89 and then go north to the park about 5 miles. Once inside the park get a trail map.

To the letterbox:
Take any one of the footbridges to the opposite (west) side of Burney Creek. The one you choose determines the length of your hike, varying from about 3-5 miles roundtrip. Go downstream and follow the PSEA Trail to Camp Britton, an historic 1920’s fish hatchery turned utility employees camp. Do not be deterred by the “Camp Britton Private Camp” sign and gate. Hikers are permitted to pass through. You will be on a dirt road as you leave the camp. As you approach the first hairpin turn to the right look for a sawn off stump about 5 feet in diameter. From this stump go 39 paces at 165 degrees (magnetic) to a large fir tree. Five paces behind this tree is a lava rock guarding over this letterbox.
