Search for this letterbox at Silver Falls State Park.

To the trailhead:
the scenic route:
From Portland, take I 205 South to Exit 10. From this point take 213 South to Silverton. In Silverton you take 214 East to the park.
the fast route:
From Portland or Salem take I5 to Exit 271 (Woodburn.) Here you take 214 East to Silverton and on to the park.

To the letterbox:
This hike can be either short (about 1 1/2 miles) or long (about 7 miles) depending on your choice of parking areas. To make this decision stop at the first parking area (North Falls) you come to in the park. Look at the trail map of the Trail of Ten Falls. Find the fall that makes you long for warm mittens and a blazing fire. Once you are at the base of this seasonal fall take the trail at 320 degrees (magnetic.) Along the path, on the uphill side you will come to a peaceful Buddha with a fuzzy belly standing beside the trail. Rub it for luck. If you need to meditate on these clues, there is a bench to sit on 148 paces down the trail. You will find the letterbox about 4 feet behind the Buddha hiding under the right side of a log lying beside him. Look for a stick marker and bark camouflage. Happy Trails, Funhog
