Apollo Beach Nature Preserve
Find the two blue viewing benches. Sit at the northernmost bench. On a clear day you can take in the extent of the Tampa Bay. At 350 degrees you will see the Tampa skyline, at 310 degrees is Beer Can Island, At 280 degrees is downtown St. Petersburg, and if there is no cloud in the sky you can see the famous Skyway Bridge at 210 degrees.
Spot the first sandy path to your right and take it to the beach. Follow the shoreline toward the electric plant to its end (just past the "Idle Speed, No wake" sign for manatee safety). At 200 degrees across the inlet of water you will see another sand bar with an orange post. Walk back to the nearest paved path and around to this sandbar.
Take a moment to spot a manatee as they congregate in the warm winter waters around the electric plant. Now face the Tampa skyline with the orange post between you and the skyline. At four paces you will find a young palmetto palm. Your treasure is burried two inches under sand at its side closest to the orange post.
Please re-burry well. Then visit the nearby Manatee Madness letterbox!
