Near the end of D St. in Petaluma turn right on El Rose and head up and then up again. El Rose turns right and becomes Hayes Ln. In the middle of that turn go up the driveway on the left. Notice the large fallen tree up the big hill in front of you-that tree is your destination.
Park in one of the first spaces and then go through the white road dividers and through the red and white metal fence posts. Head up to the fallen tree. Tell the deer that scared the bejeezus outta me, Wabbit says “hi”. Go around to the uphill side of the tree and by the base, step between the broken stump and the largest part of the trunk. You should find yourself surrounded on almost all sides. Now face north and find the box right in front of you behind the grass, under the log.
Enjoy the great view from up here.
Very steep hill-short walk, lots of mounds and holes (tough on ankles), may be hard for small kids. (I’d bring my 7 year old but not my 4 year old).
FYI-This parking area is for a child care (on weekdays) and an elderly care home, but the parking spaces are unoccupied on this end of the lot.
