Hike Distance?

Coming from Morro Bay, travel North on Highway 1. Exit Cayucos Drive (second Cayucos exit) and turn left towards the ocean. Turn left onto Ash Avenue. Park next to the Post Office on the right. If you walk up Ash Avenue you'll come to a bridge that passes over a creek with a huge tree overhead. That tree is a resting place for 20 or more large Snowy Egrets who come to roost at dusk every night and leave before dawn. Having the opportunity to view their stealthy flight silhouetted against the setting sun is truly poetic. You'll see the leavings of their pearly white feathers scattered around the creekbed. When facing the tree, look to the far right hand side of the bridge near the sidewalk. There is a small concrete wall and the Butterfly Box is located on top of the wall on a small ledge next to the road. This is easily a stroller friendly box and the empty lot across the road is a place where the Monarch Butterfly migrates during mating season. There are so many Monarch's it's like walking into a bouquet of living flowers fluttering about your head. I believe their season is sometime in September or October just before it turns cold.
