Cherry Creek State Park.

Be sure to visit the Bird and Berry letterbox which is in the same park.
Difficulty: Easy. Twenty minutes each way.
Easy for kids, no dogs allowed in this area of the park, strollers would make it, wheelchairs probably would not.
The little Kiwi entered Cherry Creek State Park, located 1 mile South of 225 off of Parker Road. He took Parker Road to the Lehigh Street entrance on the East side of the park. As he passed the ranger station he waved a friendly hello with his wing and the ranger let him go on in to the park. Visitors, however, will have to pay a small fee at the gate of $6 - $7 depending on the season.
After passing through the entrance, the little Kiwi turned left at the first intersection, then left again at the turn for the park office and shooting center. On down the road he went, then decided to turn left yet one more time where the sign pointed to the picnic area and the trailheads. Although the picnic area was beautiful and restful, the little Kiwi itched to be at the end of his journey.
He circled around the picnic area until the road ended in a loop at the trail heads. Two trail heads to be exact. "Why, this trail was Craig's project! I've always wanted to visit the beavers!", he exclaimed to himself as he chose a trail and began down the path. He passed the three as he spotted two hawks in a tree. From their perch high above they watched as he passed the four, searching for more. "Hello, Mr. Fox!", he politely bowed as he passed by, looking for the surprise on the rise.
Once on the rise he stopped and exclaimed at the lovely spot before him. His cousins the mallards swam forward to welcome him and asked him to stay. If there ever were a perfect camping spot for a Kiwi, this was it! He carefully stepped past the 6 and 7 and walked over the small earthen dam. Just before he reached the other side, he stopped at a large black rock shaped like an arrowhead pointing off at 235 degrees on his right. A quick check showed him what a cozy, dry spot the sheltering rock made. Just right for a camping Kiwi! Quickly he set up camp back under the rock. And there he camps, with the hawks, the coyotes, the mallards and all of his American cousins nearby, waiting patiently to meet you and make new friends.
Please make sure he is safely tucked all the way back into his camping spot when you leave!
