In 1898, Oscar Fulk claimed that an enormous turtle had taken up residence in his lake. Fifty years later, Gale Harris also sighted the beast in the same lake, which he now owned. The beast was named Oscar and it was was dubbed, "The Beast of 'Busco". Some say the turtle was "as large as a tabletop" and weighed 500 pounds. Today, the residents of Churubusco celebrate Oscar every year by having a Turtle Festival and have nicknamed the town "Turtle Town". It just so happens that I know where Oscar has been hiding all of these years. Here's how to find him:

Clues: Make your way to the Crooked Lake Nature Preserve, located on County Line Rd (700N) west of SR 9. The parking lot is right before the road turns northward. Park, and enter through the access point to the left of the gate. Follow the main trail into the park. You will see a trail to the right. Proceed on the main trail. You will come to a red barn on the left...keep going. Finally, the trail curves sharply to the right. At this curve, you will see a large, gnarly tree with a concrete pillar in front of it on the right. Follow the pillar's arm to it's end, where you will find Oscar hiding out under a rock.

Be sure to rehide well!
