Located in a place an old Jack Russell Terrier used to love to play at.....
Welwyn Preserve and Holocaust Museum, Glen Cove, New York. A fairly easy find, with a little walk on maintained paths. Bring your own ink pad and a compass if you have no sense of direction!
Long Island Expressway to exit 41-rt. 107 north. Take rt. 107 north-it will merge with Glen Cove Rd. Follow Glen Cove Rd. till end. At the firehouse make a right onto Brewster St. Go 3 lights make a left onto Cottage Row. Take this till light. At light go straight, this turns into Roosevelt St. Take this till end. Make a right onto Crescent Beach Rd. Take this about 1 mile. As you start to decend down this road and it becomes more rural, look on your right for a stone wall and signs for the "Holocaust Museum". If you go to far you will just end up at the beach. The Holocaust Museum is located in the Welwyn Estate Home, the letterbox is hidden in the preserve. Enter the estate and follow the path and signs for the museum till the main mansion. Park in the available lot.
Exit your means of transportation and head towards the mansion. On the left of mansion you will see a "Children's Memorial Garden", look west, next to the garden, you will see a paved path, with an anti-vehicle gate. Go on this path. Follow this path past the garden and brick wall, it will gently turn towards the north. Traveling north down this path, you will notice a large mansion in the distance on the left (Webb Institute) where Batman was filmed. You will know you are getting close when you see the Long Island Sound. At bottom of path, you will see a man made wall and concrete path which runs parallel w/ the water, go right. Follow this path till it ends. Stop. Look to your left, you will see a Gazebo on a stone groin, turn and look over your right shoulder. A tall pitch pine type of tree stands. Under it lies two cut sitting logs at its base. Cross the man-made gravel path, step over the logs.
At base of pine, under a large peice of wood find Jackie's hidden box!!
This box has been placed in the winter, if you come during a more "green" time you might have to look under some green stuff!
Good Luck! We will be placing more around so us "Nassau County" people have some more stuff to find!
