The great kiskadee is a member of the flycatcher family. It is about ten inches in length with a black and white striped head, a black bill, bright yellow undersides and crown, a white throat and a brown back and wings. It lives in open woodlands, stream-side thickets, groves and orchards, and can be found from extreme southern Texas south to Argentina. The Kingsville area is far enough south to harbor the great kiskadee, and Dick Kleberg Park, where this microbox is located, is one good place to find it. It is part of the Kingsville Loop described on the Central Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail map. Also nearby is King Ranch, one of the largest working ranches in the United States today, and tours are available. So come to Kingsville for birds, history and letterboxing!

Directions:
Kingsville is about 50 miles southwest of Corpus Christi via Hwy 77. To get to Dick Kleberg Park in Kingsville, take Business 77 south from Hwy 77 to Escondido Road and turn left into the park. Drive past the baseball fields to the one-way entrance to the picnic area on right and park by the restrooms.

Clues:
Walk towards the lake to the old asphalt path and go right (west) on it for about 50 yards to an electric box on the right and wood light pole on left. Continue another 55 steps to the next light pole on the left. Look toward the lake at 200 for a small 3-trunk tree about 15 steps off the trail. The microbox in camo tape is in the crotch of the tree about 1 foot high covered by sticks and rocks. Please re-cover well.
