[Boxes 2 & 3 reported missing 11/28/09. - Choi]
Originally placed by Funky Dancers, and rediscovered by Paper Trail. this box is maintained by Girlguides (HLRG stands for Historic Letterbox Restoration Group.)

Please be sure to bring a compass to help you find these boxes.

Getting There
From the outer loop of the Beltway (I-495)take Exit 29A and go right (NW) on University Blvd 0 .04 miles to Colesville Rd (US 29). Take Colesville Rd right for 0.8 miles(NE). On the left you will see WSSC/M-NCPPC buildings with a dam behind them. Take a left into the parking lot of the WSSC/M-NCPPC buildings.

Most Sundays, we start the day with a nice breakfast, watch "Meet the Press" and then head out to Northwest Branch Trail to take our dog Millie for a long walk. Millie seems to know when it's Sunday is always rarin' to go when its time to get in the car and head out. This letterbox is honor of Millie and her favorite walk.

To get on the trail, walk south along Colesville Road, crossing over Northwest Branch. The trailhead is approximately 10 yards after the bridge. Colesville is a busy road so please be careful.

Follow the trail across a stream and up a fairly steep hill. Continue along the trail which runs north alongside Northwest Branch.

Bear right at the first crossroads following the signs for Northwest Branch trail. Cross the bridge and continue north until you come to a second bridge.

Box 1: "What's in the Woods"
Take 6 paces to the left from the tree with the blue blaze and red arrow. From that spot take a bearing of 244 on the compass. Walk toward the big tree with three trunks growing from one base. The box is hidden in the northeastern base of the tree covered by rocks and leaves. Please recover it when you put it back.

Back track to Northwest Branch trail, cross the bridge and continue on the trail.

Cross the next bridge(this will be the third bridge you cross)and continue on the trail. You will then come to a sign post. Take a right in the direction of Lamberton Drive and Kemp Mill and continue on the trail. You'll see another bridge at the bottom of the hill.

Cross that bridge and walk to the next sign post that says Northwest Branch trail and has an arrow pointing to the right.

Box 2: "The Chase is on"
At the sign, take a bearing of 92 degrees. Walk toward the cluster of trees in that direction. You'll find the box at the the base of the cluster. Please recover it with rocks and leaves when you're done.

Follow the directions on the sign post to continue on Northwest Branch trail toward Kemp Mills Drive. Continue on down the trail until you reach a sign that reads "Northwest Branch trail, Kemp Mill 1.6 miles, Lockridge Drive 1.5 miles, Lamberton Drive .1 miles"

Box 3: "Knick Knack Patty Whack"
At this sign post, take a bearing of 256 degrees and take 13 paces in that direction. You'll find a pile of large rocks. Look around under the first ones you come to. Please don't forget to cover the box back up with leaves and sticks, when you replace it.

Hope you enjoy this letterbox. If it's Sunday, we may even see you there.
