Note: The box was checked on Feb 1, 2011. Amazingly dispite the Bull Run fire sweeping over this area,the box was covered by rocks and thus survived. In '08 a new stamp and new location was selected.
PeterK was searching for the old box when we happened upon him. PeterK helped with the new plant and we had a very enjoyable dinner with him.

Find Primo’s chicken and head north 3.2 miles. Just before the “North Fork Kern River” sign turn right sharply onto a dirt road. Find the structure that Santa would certainly overlook. From the back of the free standing structure, take 30 steps at 60 degrees through rocks and some bushes
(bushes are now gone) to an enormous monolith. It is criss-crossed with yellow veins of lichen . Got that? From the front middle of the landmark, take about 8 steps at 20 degrees to a three-some rock grouping laid out in a row. Between the middle and last in a cairn lies your quest. Please rehide the box carefully. This area is not pretty anymore but land is sometimes forgiving and greenery will return. It does make the free standing structure easy to see;

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.
