“This is Gwen's second carved stamp, and this box was planted for Don's Christmas present.

This year for reindeer presents, Santa commissioned form-fitting handmade imitation leather coats. And each little reindeer loved the attention to detail exhibited in the fine workmanship of the made to fit garments. However, the coats were made prior to Halloween and fit just great upon arrival from Hong Kong at Thanksgiving but, with the carbos and sweets packed on over the holiday season, at least one reindeer, Vixen, had a tiny problem with his coat. Some might say it shrank and others might say Vixen just bulked up beyond the coat’s ability to cover his tummy. Whatever the cause, the little coat is looking 2 sizes too small and Vixen is looking like a stuffed sausage in it. Mrs. Claus remarked that, “Pride is Painful” but Vixen still loves to wear his coat despite the tight fit. If you want to see Vixen in his little coat look for him near Kernville, where he is now a permanent resident…. or at least until he is able to fly home after he loses a few pounds.”

Placement and clues revised March 22, 2024
From Kernville drive south out of town on Sierra Way. Turn right onto Patterson Lane that directs you to Hanning Flat Dispersed Area. Drive straight until the paved road ends and the wire fencing turns a corner. Park here, unless you feel your vehicle can continue. Walk along the dirt road on the left that follows the fence line. Stop when the fencing makes another corner turn, at three wood posts. At the base of the center post.

Outdated clues of June, 2014.
“Just pass the tree on your left park and note your surroundings. There will be a large hill to your left and a rocky hill on your right. This rocky hill on your right is called "Rabbit Island" and is also called "Sometimes an Island" when the lake is at its peak.
Exit your vehicle and prepare for your search. As you walk along the left embankment look among rocks at ground level for double veins of whitish/pink rock heading uphill to the right. Follow the veins up as they branch and finally peter out near the side of a tank size rock. Scramble uphill about 20 steps (careful on the sandy slope)going behind the "tank" rock and then walk in front of a rock group on your left.
Note on the first rock of this group, lichen has formed sort of a stylized yellowish star shaped blotch with orange lichen at the base.
from the lichen blotch. There are 2 junipers at 30 degrees behind the fin rock.
Turn left at the end of this rock group and head uphill and behind the fin rock, and join the cow path that heads North. After about 15 steps on the north cowpath, it branches into 3; take the upper most path for about 40 steps uphill and turn to the right at the intersection of your path and the upper path.
Along the path before you, there is a passage between rocks at 180 degrees.
As you approach this passage look to your left into a secret room and another small alcove on the right, but keep going and thread your way through the rock passage. Stop now and turn east and walk about 20 steps towards an elongated semi prone lichen speckled rock with a mouth like slit on the upper left edge. It is leaning against a big brother.
Probe in a likely spot for the box in the crevice. If you have time, explore this rocky maze, but do be careful and mindful of snakes. Please rehide properly with the small rocks.“
