The Rio Grande Nature Preserve is part of the Rio Grand Valley State Park, located in northwest Albuquerque. There is an excellent visitor's center, two nature trails, and bike trails. Gates close at 5:00 p.m.
Clues to the box:
Follow the main nature trail to the fork. A sign will direct you toward the xeriscape garden. Follow this pathway. When you get to the garden, look for a small silver windmill on your left. Behind the windmill, you will see several stepping stones which start you on your way to a park bench under a huge cottonwood tree. Sit for a few moments to enjoy the surroundings. As you return to the stepping stones, you will notice a large log on the left. The letterbox is in a natural hole in the ground on the right hand side of the log. Please be careful...this park usually has numerous visitors.
