The Line Never Ends…

This box was planted on Thanksgiving Day 2004, when our family celebrated at Lower Allen Park. We have numbered 24 to over 40 people for the Feast, which began in 1968 and continues today. It is dedicated to Pop (my grandfather-who coined the phrase), to those no longer in the line who we miss dearly, to those currently in the line and those yet to come join the line.

“It was Thanksgiving 1989 and Pop had already had surgery for cancer, but was feeling well enough to come to the annual dinner. As usual when the food line was opened, everyone rushed to the buffet. Pop and Grandmom just sat there watching. My Mom was across the room and noticed they had not gotten up. Mom told them they should be first in line.

My Pop shook his head. “The line will never end,” he said.

Mom laughed. “Now Dad, there’s not that many people here.”
He said that wasn’t what he meant. He looked around and said there were little kids and new ones to come.
“Even when we’re all gone the line will go on.”

(Adapted from “Hail, Hail, The Gang’s All Here” written by my mom in 1999)

Directions to the Park:
You can find directions to the park at: http://www.lower-allen.pa.us/Parks/LACP.htm or just do a search on Lower Allen Community Park Mechanicsburg
This is a great family park!

Clues:
Head to the Fun Fort, but drive on by, taking the left side until you come to the end where there are four rocks. Stand in front of the 4th rock to the left. Look uphill to a multi-trunk tree about 25 feet uphill. Walk to that spot (watch for stickers!). Look slightly right to a BIG tree 12-15 steps. The memory is there!

Let us know the condition of the box if you find it! Enjoy!
