The Chitter-Chatter Box

To get to the park where it is hidden:

This letterbox is hidden in a park that is adjacent to the Laurelwood Golf Course in Southeast Eugene. It is hilly and can be muddy after the rains. It is undeveloped and very woodsy. The park is east of the golf course. To get there, go to 24th and Agate. Go up Agate one block to Columbia. Take a right on Columbia and go to 27th. Take a left on 27th, go up the hill and take a right on Central Blvd. Go down Central to the very end. The park is on your right. Park at the end of Central by the wood and wire fence.

To find the letterbox:

You will probably need a compass.

Walk back down Central about 25 paces to the mailboxes on the left. The path is just past the mailboxes, going steeply down an incline. Follow the path down the hill, past the rope swing on the right and through the guardrails. You will then come to a “Y”. Take the left fork and walk up hill.

You will be in the woods for a minute and then come to a large grassy strip and slope down on your right. Take the path that will take you downhill through the grassy strip. At the bottom of the strip, there will be another main dirt path running perpendicular. Stand at the intersection of the two paths and walk 15-16 paces 150º (SSE).

You are looking for a medium size tree with vines wound around it. The box is inside the base of the tree which is hollow with arched openings around it. Please be sure to camouflage well to avoid accidental discovery.

We placed this box in December and are hoping there aren’t too many blackberries around the tree in the summer!

There are many trails around to enjoy and a sweeping view of the golf course.

Have Fun!!!
