Canyon Owl
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park
Big Sur,
Monterey County
Note: So sorry to report that we must assume this box is lost due to the floods of past years. The location is up for adoption if someone can find a stable site for a new box. It is a shame to not have a box near the falls...Gwen

After checking for the “Way Cool” letterbox, and spending time looking at McWay Falls don’t forget to head up past the picnic area on the Canyon Trail. Keep on the Canyon trail crossing a bridge following the wellmarked trail for about ¼ mile. When the Ewoldsen trail heads to the right keep going straight and stop at the bench. Directly across the creek from the bench you will see a very large Redwood tree with a large jumble of large logs between the first tree and another tree. Go to the down creek side of this tree and to the rear of the jumble. Hidden in a crevice about 3 feet high on the west side of the jumble you will find this lonely owl under some movable rocks. With all of the dramatic competition this little guy has with it’s big cousin at the shore, only the lucky will come to visit.

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.

Please contact placer directly or through the LBNA chat list regarding status rather than unofficial databases. Up to date status can only be ascertained from placer as other information services will not have current data. The placer does not appreciate listing information about this letterbox on unauthorized information services.
