In honor of those who have taken in a stray animal or adopted one
from a shelter.

This box has been reported missing as of 2/24/05. It will be replaced in the next few weeks.

Exit 280 Alpine Road. Continue West toward Portola Valley. Stay
on Alpine Road for approximately 3.9 miles. Park in the small,
dirt parking area on the right just before Willowbrook Road.
Walk on Alpine Road past Willowbrook. On your right you will see
a gate which leads to the Windy Hills Open Space Preserve. Go
through the wooden fence and follow the gravel road. Shortly,
you will cross a bridge over a creek. Just on the other side of
the bridge you will see a fallen, dead tree on the right. Across
from it on the left, is Meadow Trail. Walk down Meadow Trail for
about 50 steps. To your left you will see a large, mossy, double
oak tree near the creek.

Within the base where these oaks meet,
beneath the stones, find what you seek.

This is a very easy, short walk and perfect for families, but not
suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. You may want to take
advantage of the many trails in this area, but watch for poison
oak and rattlesnakes. Be sure to uncover Procyon Lotor with
caution. If the small parking area on Alpine Road is full you
can park on Willowbrook. There is no parking on Alpine beyond
Willowbrook. What's Procyon Lotor? The stamp will solve the
mystery.
