Driving Directions from Schroon Lake, NY
The entrance to the park area that used to be Scaroon Manor is exactly 4 miles south of the south end of the town of Schroon Lake, NY, or .8 of a mile south of the I-87 ramps that are part of exit 27 on the Northway. The entrance is a gravel area on the left (east) side of the road, an area which is not marked and which can hold perhaps 10 cars. You can't drive in; you'll have to walk. The state of New York is making this site into a developed camping area, which will eventually cost money and probably have lots of people around, but this season, at least, progress appears to be very slow. People now come in occasionally to use the beach, do some fishing or tent camping, or have a picnic.

Directions from the lake of Schroon Lake:
You may approach from the water side, but we have only an estimate (and the above photo) as your guide. We think it is about 7 miles south of the north end of the lake. It is on the west side of the lake, and the small beach shown in the picture along with a 5-sided cement dock should help you find it.

History of Scaroon Manor
This abbreviated history of the Manor is taken from the reference book cited above (Metcalfe's The Schroon River...).

Originally (around 1901) Taylor's Hotel was a Jewish resort. It became Scaroon Manor in 1925, and catered to young people from New York City by providing a romantic setting, lots of activities, and stage shows brought from New York. The film Marjorie Morningstar (starring Natalie Wood and Gene Kelly) was made on the location of Scaroon Manor in 1957. The resort closed in 1960. When the property was sold to New York State, the Dept. of Environmental Conservation removed the old buildings. Metcalfe's chapter on Scaroon Manor is very interesting and has lots of old photos.
