The Crooked River Bridge II Letterbox is located at the Peter Skene Ogden Scenic Viewpoint and is an entirely new offering that replaces an earlier box that went missing. Until the new bridge was opened in 2001, the vintage bridge spanning the plunging Crooked River Gorge was a landmark that travelers to Central Oregon always remembered. The new bridge is much safer for drivers but doesn’t have nearly the scenic impact of the old. Today, travelers can park their cars and walk out on to the old highway bridge and gaze directly down to the Crooked River, 300 feet below. (DO NOT take your dog with you to the bridge. For some reason, dogs have a penchant for jumping over the edge!)

To the trailhead: The viewpoint is located approximately two miles north of the town of Terrebonne on the west side of Highway 97. Park here.

To the letterbox: Begin by reading the interpretive sign in front of the restrooms. Cross the high bridge. Go down the stairs. Shun the new millenium and head for the trunk. Continue along the fence to the last tree before you reach the trunk. Here you will find the letterbox beneath lava, a couple of loose stone guarding its entrance.
