The Elba Onions are thankful for many things. Most recently we are thankful for the joy and adventure our latest hobby has brought into our lives. We are very much thankful to the Sprite and the Highlander for organizing the WNY Letterbox Gathering on Nov. 13, 2004. This series of boxes have been placed for the enjoyment of those attending the gathering and anyone else looking for great family adventure.

If you are following the clues for Thankful at the Royalton Ravine Series (The Sprite & The Highlander a.k.a. Daina & Kevin) the "T" intersection at #6 is where you want to start. Take the trail to the right (yellow markers), keeping the ravine on your left.

As you walk along enjoying the beauty of the trees and small woodland creatures you will come across a display of fungus on the right. Eight steps farther will bring you to a skinny tree boasting a yellow marker. Turn away from the ravine and take 17 steps to the end of a rotting log. Here you will find A Good Show! An Onion is always thankful for good entertainment!

Return to the trail and continue onward. You will begin to notice lovely patches of green moss carpeting the woodland floor. Look for a fallen log to the right which leads to a tall stump. This looks like a great place to stop and Read with a Friend.

Return to the trail and continue until you find a group of cut logs. "Stop! Did you hear something? I think I heard a chicken!" Leave the trail and follow the noise off to the right. Maybe you will find what you are looking for at the end of a fallen tree. Be very careful of the right end - something is living there! I would check the left end first! Chicks rock!!!

Return to the trail and go on. "What's that? More noise? Is that someone laughing? Are you laughing at me? Okay, so I was chasing an imaginary chicken! Letterboxers do silly things sometimes! Hey, where did you go?" Look for a rock along the trail. Keep your eyes open so you don't trip over it! It seems our Silly Friend has left us a clue. The rock is pointing towards the ravine. Don't go that way - turn and look the opposite way. Look for the twinning tree. Near, but not at, the base is the perfect hiding place for Silly Friends.

Return to the trail. Continue along the winding path. On the right you will soon see a mutant tree. Count 10 paces to the twisted tree (look up - it is pretty cool) to the right in a hollow log you will find Sunset Walks.

Return to the trail and follow the markers down a slight incline. On the left notice the tree with the yellow triangle marker. To the right of that tree is an old stump. Take time here to get A Hug From a Little One.

Continue down the hill - be careful of the tree roots and the hidden muddy spots. Look for a faint orange arrow pointing to the left - follow it. Up ahead you will notice a beautiful clump of ferns off to the left. Turn so the ferns are at your back and notice a tree with a large limb on the left. In front of the tree, in the roots of yesteryear's tree you will find A Beautiful Day.

Please bring your own ink pad and pencil! Have fun and be thankful for the little things in life!
