Texas History Letterbox Series

The "Hogg" letterbox is dedicated to James Stephen Hogg, the first
native born governor of Texas. The day-use only park is located on
the land of his birth. A scale replica of his dog-run birth home
serves as the museum. The cemetery is the actual family burial
site.

Directions:

>From Rusk, go northeast on Hwy 84 for 2 miles to Fire Tower Rd. Turn
right, and go to Park Road 50, and follow the signs to the park. Park
in the lot directly in front of the cemetery.

To the letterbox:

Walk down the road to the playground area, turning right and continue
to the West side of the park. Locate the "Mountain Home Nature
Trail" sign. From the bottom step at the beginning of this trail, go
80 paces to the 1st post on your right(understand post has fallen and is rotting). From this post, go 5 paces
further to a birdhouse(this may no longer be there) a tree on your right. From the middle of
the trail, go left (Northeast) for 15 paces to a large pine tree.
The box is on the ground on the back side of this tree covered by
rocks.
