THANKFUL FOR REFUGE (# Letterboxes = 2)

MISSING

These Letterboxes pick up where "Thankful Along the Canal" leaves off.

*a note about these two: hey, they can’t all be easy! These are very short distances, but oh, the terrain! Bring your logbooks and stamp in where you find them (quietly) because you’re not going to want to go in and out more than once.

#1: Drive south out of Medina on Rte 63, toward Genesee County. After you pass three giant cross-sculptures on the left look out for Oak Orchard Ridge Rd on the left. There’s an Iroquois Job Corps sign.

Drive down Oak Orchard Ridge to Ring Neck Marsh Overlook. Park all the way over to the left. Enjoy the geese for a while, then stroll back directly behind your car to the small pines.

Go behind the pines and you’ll see a lone, tall pine tree among the arborvitae. Check in the pine needles and debris directly behind that pine.

#2: Continue down Oak Orchard Ridge Rd to School House Marsh Overlook.

MISSING

Again, park on the left. You already see the pine trees -- yup, those tall ones on the left.
Burrow your way in there. Please be careful of the thorns -- they’re “Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger on one of those and slept for 100 years” sized.
Once you’re in the pine glen, seek out the multi-trunked tree way in the back.

This looks like the perfect hiding spot, but whatever lives in this tree might be a little bit bigger than we bargained for. Keep quiet and hopefully it won’t jump out at you.

Approach the tree. No, I didn’t hear anything. I thought *you* made that rustling noise!
Just remain calm. After all, you can just run right back to your car if something reaches out for you…… oops, no wait, you can’t -- you’ll get ripped to shreds by the thorns. Or ripped to shreds by the tree-creature.

Well, just be real, real quiet so you don’t wake it up.

Stand with your back against the tree and your nose pointing toward the road.
Stand perfectly still.
The tree is behind you, at 6:00. The road is at midnight.
Take 7 Onion Steps toward 1:00; that pine has a treasure at its feet.
Stamp in and get out………that tree creature’s hungry!!
Take along an onion snack just in case.
