Battle of the Bands

Tyler State Park
Newtown, PA.

There are several entrances to Tyler State Park.
For this set of 3 boxes, head for the PA Guild of Craftsmen Craft Center which can be accessed from Holland Rd. (known on western sections as Almshouse Rd., aka Rt 332).
Pull down the long driveway. The Craft Center will be on your right. You can park in the small lot on the left. Port-a-potty available.

This is a loop course approximately 1.5 miles long (maybe less).

Aerosmith
I am sure Stephen Tyler (lead singer for Aerosmith in case you didn’t know) was not the first to say it but, Life’s a Journey, not a destination.” This is a particularly appropriate saying for a Letterboxer. Enjoy the trail and the fresh air.

Start off heading North on #1 Lane Trail. You will soon pass a sign warning you of “Sharp Turns”. Cross a small stone bridge. Then turn left onto College Park Trail.
You will be heading up hill. Near the top you will see another “Sharp Curves” sign, facing downhill. You will see a wooden fence post just opposite this sign and something of a small trail heading into the trees. May look more like a clearing. Watch for prickers.
About 10 paces in (1 pace = 2 steps) you should see a low mossy mound. Inside is Aerosmith.

Bee Gees
Anyone who lived through the disco era cannot deny the impact of this falsetto-singing group. Saturday Night Fever which features mostly Bee Gees music is one of those coming of age movies you can’t forget. (No matter how hard you try). Back then the dancing was pretty cool. If you watch it now, it’s pretty lame. For the record, my 10 year old daughter made me carve this one.

Continue on the paved trail until you see a “Horse Crossing” sign. When you see it, turn right and follow the horse trail. Watch your step. As you cross this open field, look ahead for a big spooky tree on the right side of the trail. Crawl in toward its base and check it out. Please recover well with leaves.

Mystery Artist
Well, some of you may recall I joked about carving this musician when the Battle of the Bands was first announced. But then my daughters started dancing to some of this music and we went out and bought a music video collection of this artist. I was reminded, once again, of how much influence this person had in the music industry over the last 3 decades. I felt compelled to memorialize the memory.
Needs help now, though.

Back on the horse trail. You will go right down the middle of a large corn field. In Novemebr, when we placed this, the corn was eight feet high on either side of us. Eventually you will hit another cross trail with some gravel. Turn right.
Watch for two large twin trunked trees on your left. The pair on the right holds your mystery box, but not in the big hole. Please rehide well.

Continue downhill on the horse trail and you will soon hit the paved trail. Turn right to get back to your car.

Please send us a report. trainear@comcast.net
Thanks. The Raindears.
